Speaker: Harry Pierson, Architect,
Microsoft Architecture Strategy Team
Topic: Patterns of Participation,
Understanding the Role of Users in Architecture
Among the principles of Web 2.0 outlined by Tim
O’Reilly is “Harness Collective Intelligence”. Like most of his description of
Web 2.0, Tim illustrates this principle with examples such as Wikipedia, Google
PageRank and del.icio.us. These examples, though illustrative of the principle,
don’t provide much in the way of guidance for people that are looking to harness
the wisdom of crowds. In this talk, Harry will describe a series of patterns for
harnessing collective intelligence. These patterns are based on how some of the
popular Web 2.0 sites are leveraging collective intelligence in order to provide
their services.
